Canary Wharf is one of Britain’s major financial districts in the heart of East London. It was once home to the West India docks but as these went into decline and redevelopment began in the 1980’s, Canary Wharf was born. The London skyline changed forever, a new shining ultra modern part of the city was created including some of the tallest buildings ever seen in Britain. One of the first buildings completed in 1991 was Number One Canada Square. This became a powerful symbol of the regeneration program and one of the most recognised buildings in London. Many more buildings have now been built and Canary Wharf has grown into an integral part of London’s modern skyline. It is as instantly recognisable as other landmarks such as the London Eye and Houses of Parliament.
Caernarfon Castle, tucked in the northwestern corner of Wales in the UK is a magnificent example of medieval castle building. Work began on the site over 700 years ago. In 1283, the English King Edward the 1st built this castle to stamp his authority on the rebellious Welsh. Edward adorned the castle with imperial grandeur such as these carved stone eagles and stone heads mounted all along the battlements. To would be attackers, these heads may have looked like helmeted soldiers and hopefully acted as a deterrent. On permanent lookout, they symbolised the strength of the royal garrison within. The castle’s curtain walls were unique in Britain at the time because they contained passages that ran between the towers. They allowed guards to keep a constant lookout, and also offered valuable protection to archers. Running between the outer and inner walls, they are over six meters thick and were a unique innovation at the time. All the towers here at Caernarfon Castle perform specific functions: there was the well tower retrieving fresh water from the bedrock, one tower that stored and processed grain, another that housed the treasurery, and others such as the lookout towers that held more traditional defensive roles. But the greatest of all has to be the Eagle tower, which contains the royal apartments where King Edward intended to stay with queen Eleanor. Every thing about it was designed on a grand regal scale. King Edward brought his heavily pregnant wife to stay in this tower. He wanted the next future king to be born in Wales. He was later given the title prince of Wales, which has been conferred on each first-born royal son ever since. Our own Prince Charles was invested here at Caernarfon in 1969. Caernarfon Castle is a world heritage site, and it’s gone from being what would have been a palace to being part of Caernarfon itself: a thoroughly absorbed landmark in the fabric of Wales.
British Airways is gearing up for the Christmas getaway and expects to operate more than 11,000 flights to and from London between Friday December 22 and Friday January 4, with the most popular destinations chosen by customers including New York, Rome and Geneva.
More than 60,000 Christmas dinners and 90,000 mince pies will bring some of the season’s spirit to customers on long-haul flights, and on short-haul flights a new M&S On-Board menu continues the celebration with Santa Percy Pigs and a seasonal Turkey Feast sandwich.
For the first time ever British Airways has created a dedicated Christmas channel on its in-flight entertainment system called ‘Festive Cheer’ showing a number of classic Christmas films including Home Alone and Elf. Television programmes include The Office Christmas Special and audio treats such as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Rachel Joyce’s I’ll Be Home for Christmas are gifted to customers.
To help bring some sparkle to the season, the airline has also added two English sparkling wines to its first class drinks menu. Camel Valley and Gusbourne will be available on board for six months.
Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ director of brand and customer experience, said: “Christmas is obviously an incredibly popular time of the year for friends and families to travel and reunite, so we want to make the flying part of their travels exciting and special for them. To mark the season, we like to inject some fun and tradition with Christmas dinners, festive films and seasonal tipples.”
British Airways is to increase flights from UK regional airports to some of the top European holiday hotspots in summer 2018.
In May this year British Airways launched seven new summer-only routes from Manchester Airport and four from Birmingham and Bristol airports.
From May 2018 there will be extra weekend flights from Manchester to Malaga, Ibiza and Palma, with Mykonos flights operating on Saturdays instead of Fridays, an extra weekend flight from Birmingham to Palma and an extra weekend flight from Bristol to Malaga.
Additional summer routes include flights from Manchester to Alicante and Nice, from Birmingham to Malaga and Florence and from Bristol to Ibiza, Palma and Florence.
For snow and ski lovers, British Airways is also launching new winter-only services from Manchester to Salzburg and Chambery on December 15. 2017.
Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager customer and commercial, said: “Following the successful launch of our regional flying this year we are delighted to resume flights from these three important UK airports next summer. We have looked at what our customers want and have altered our schedule to provide improved departure times and the extra flights and capacity on the most popular routes.”
Each way fares from Manchester and Birmingham start from £46 to Palma and from Bristol to Palma from £50. They are on sale now on www.ba.com
All flights operate on modern Embraer 190 jet aircraft, with spacious cabins and two abreast seating allowing every customer to have an aisle or window seat.
Customers travelling in the airline’s Club Europe cabin receive complimentary food and drinks on board, a generous free baggage allowance and free seat selection and online check-in.
British Airways currently operates up to 10 return flights a day between Manchester and London Heathrow and a weekly service to London City Airport.

The multi-use stadium in Nice, France is used mostly for soccer matches of host team OGC Nice and also for occasional home matches of rugby union club Toulon. The stadium has a capacity of 35,624 people but it is capable of accommodating up to 45,000 spectators for concerts, operas and large-scale shows. The stadium’s opening was on 22 September 2013. The stadium also houses the Musee National de Sport a collection of greatest sporting exploits from each era displayed through an innovative and immersive indoor display. See the football used in the World Cup 1998 final, Marcel Cerdan’s gloves, Jean-Claude Killy’s skis, Yannick Noah’s racket and the Olympic torches. The exhibition includes atmospheric sound installations, film projections and interactive challenges included an F1 car to test your driving skills.

The Seychelles Tourism Board, which strongly believes that the continuous training of travel agents working to sell the destination is a key and more cost-effective marketing tool has once again taken part in the Travel Trade Roadshow (TTR) Baltic.The roadshow took place in each of the three Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
The 2017 edition of TTR Baltic was held from November 14 to 16, 2017, in the capital cities of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. The Seychelles Tourism Board was represented by Senior Marketing Executive, Amia Jovanovic-Desir. Over the three days travel agents were invited to meet with representatives of tourism boards, airlines, destinations among others. Through workshops conducted in each country, the participants were able to obtain valuable information and they also had the opportunity to establish new contacts and business opportunities through business to business meetings.
Travel Agents in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia confirmed that there is great interest to push and feature Seychelles as a holiday destination. However, they highlighted a lack of knowledge about the destination and its products as one of the constraints, which makes it hard to better sell Seychelles to potential holidaymakers.
The Seychelles Tourism Board’s Senior Executive, Amia Jovanovic-Desir, said: “This showcases the need for us to conduct more training for trade agents, particularly in places where we do not have an office or representation, with the aim of broadening their knowledge and creating more demand to sell Seychelles.”
“It is worth mentioning, however, that there is a strong pool of agents who are creating awareness and promoting the various range of accommodations, ranging from small hotels and guesthouses to large hotels, which creates a perfect balance of what Seychelles has to offer,” she added.
Air connectivity remains the key to ensure the sustainability of the tourism industry. The TTR Baltic was hence an opportunity for the Seychelles Tourism Board to promote recently introduced flights and upcoming flights to the destination in 2018. While the news of more airlines serving the destination, especially from Europe in 2018, was very much welcomed, the majority of travel agents who attended the three city roadshow confirmed that Turkish Airlines was their clients’ preferred choice of airline.
Some of the travel agents conveyed their words of appreciation for having received ample knowledge about Seychelles, adding that they were enticed to visit the destination and were now more confident to promote the destination.
“Through her presentation, Amia brought me to Seychelles and I had the feeling that I was there for a while,” said Ortygia of Vanilla Travel. The travel agents were able to take part in a lucky draw, standing the chance to win exciting prizes, and the Seychelles Tourism Board also awarded a prize to a couple in Estonia who had shown great interest in the destination.
